Its a compact unit that does not take much space. Works just as well as my battery tender for charging my motorcycle battery. I also tried it on my car battery and it also worked fine. Its great for topping up a battery or maintaining a charge for storage just like the competing more expensive products mentioned.
If you want a fast charger that can also boost your car battery, you need a much bigger unit.
But this unit is compact and most useful and half the price.

This has kept my vehicles going, with its smart features, no more deciding what amperage and for how long, this keeps the batteries healthy constantly, attached the cord to my motorcycle battery and use the clips on everything else. This is not a booster or starter, but for its price I would say a NOCO competitor without the big price.

This a great small charger. It provides excellent feedback about what it is doing. It has continuous variable amperage 0-4 that automatically adjusts as necessary. I installed it on my battery cover with Velcro and hardwired the pigtail (provided). It is very nice that this easily unplugs so you can remove the charger and plug the (provided) plug in clips to another battery. This was very useful yesterday as I helped out a person stranded with a dead battery.

I am so amazed with this product, I bought this because I took my battery in Crappy Tire to get it tested, 2 hours later I get a phone call from Crappy Tire saying the battery is bad not holding charge blabla, so I go in there to get a replacement since it was still under warranty, but I didnt have my receipt so I was stuck with a bad battery, so I bought this product put the battery for condition/repair mode and 2 days later. the battery is holding charge and now I have been using that battery for 5 months and no problem. Terrific charger, used this to recharge a dead battery in my car. Initially charger indicated battery was dead, too little of charge in batter. So using my wife’s car, boosted it and let it run for 20 mins. After hooking it up again, set it on slow 1A rate and after 40 hrs car battery took and held a charge without issue. I have a Schumacher 1.5A trickle charger, which i’ve used to charge and maintain various batteries. When I looked at the user guide, it says you should not use it to charge larger (car) batteries, and if you do, it might reduce its capacity. I searched the web to better understand why this might be. I found that charging at a slow 1.5A should not harm a battery, even if deeply discharged, so I’m still confused why they recommended against it. During my research I learned that these multi-stage ‘smart’ chargers exist, and they can not only charge any battery, but they do it better in so many ways.
A basic charger is 3-stage (bulk, absorption, float) and a 4-stage adds desulfation. Desulfation will use a higher-than-normal voltage in short bursts, to force Lead Sulfate into solution, removing this build-up which interferes with a battery’s performance. This will extend the battery’s life, and might even bring a dead battery back from the dead, although never with full 100% capacity.
Then, they have the 7-stage or even 9-stage chargers, depending on what you might call a ‘stage’ – that add a few extra steps that are not strictly required, but might help to preserve battery life, or at least charge it up with the least amount of degradation usually associated with a charge-cycle.
All of this is made possible with an embedded microprocessor, which is programmed to use different charge parameters at each stage, using different voltages, fixed or variable current, and adjust these parameters dynamically, according to how the charging progresses. While these computerized battery-charging features never existed in the old days, they are standard today, and absolutely required if you want to charge a battery with the least amount of degradation or damage. And as for 4-stage or 7 or 9-stage, I don’t think it matters too much, so I would not be swayed by the number of stages offered in a charger.
I found lots of expensive and inexpensive chargers on Amazon, but which one to choose? I think that a good brand will produce a better quality charger, but then there are these generic-brand Chinese ones, where quality is variable. I think it’s worth a shot if you can get a decent charger for $35 instead of $90. Chargers are expensive, because of the high-current transistors and capacitors inside, but also ‘features’. I don’t know whether the way they are programmed makes any difference, as I could not find any reviews that scrutinized their charge algorithms. I think that in general, charging of a lead-acid battery is well-understood, so I don’t doubt that the algorithms are good.
When it comes to those less-expensive chinese chargers with funny-sounding names, this one from Aimtom was the best I could find, in terms of features and price. (Aimtom? are we taking aim at some guy named Tom?) It outputs 4A, which is supposedly enough to charge any battery, and while 8A or 12A will charge it faster, it doesn’t really matter if you leave it charging overnight, so $a is plenty. Then there are 30A chargers, which are really charging the battery “too fast” and only suitable for professionals for whom time is money. Aimtom has another way-more-expensive one with 7.2A and similar features, and I didn’t see any reason to spend more just to get that higher current.
Next it has AGM-specific capability. It charges a SLA and AGM slightly differently, which i’ve heard is a good thing, particularly when it comes to desulfation and charging a deeply discharged or old or damaged battery.
Next, it can charge a 12V lithium battery. Since i’m getting one of these for my camper trailer, this is a GREAT feature! Lithium is charged completely differently to a lead-acid battery, and using a lead-acid charge profile on these batteries is not recommended, because lithium doesn’t have a ‘float’ or trickle mode, and uses slightly different voltages, and there is no sulfation.
These great features usually come with a $80+ price tag, but this charger stands alone in giving these great features at an amazing price. But how does it perform? As good as anyone can tell, but I do like the display, which shows voltage and current, and 5-stage progress. It has 2 buttons, which don’t ‘click’ when you press them which is weird, but they work. The orange color is nice. It comes with good quality connectors, an extra ‘ring’ connector which i’ll install full-time into my car, for easy plug-in maintenance charging.
The only thing missing: a carry-case. Other chinese charges featured a decent hard-case, which is handy keeping everything together. I think i’ll buy a customizable hard-case for this one, or maybe just keep the original cardboard box, which is compact and easy to pack/unpack.
Right now I’m using it to fully charge a brand new H9 AGM battery I bought for my Touareg. It started with 12.8V, and it took a few hours to bring it all the way up. I’ll also use it to trickle-charge it if i’m not planning to drive my car for more than a week. I’ll also put it on the charger once per year. I expect this battery will last 7-10 YEARS just like the 7-year old AGM battery that it replaced.
